Instructions 1.
Include two simple shapes in your developed Sketchup model and apply an image of your clients work to them. They should be to scale and represent an approximate form and volume. (This is so we can see the relationship between the work and the space that it was constructed in).
Instructions 2.
Choose 3 of the textures you've developed and apply them to the most appropriate parts of the SketchUp model. IMPORTANT: you do not have to cover your entire model, use the textures to highlight certain aspects or spaces.
Instructions 3.
Upload 2 new images of your developed SketchUp model to your blog; these should show the designers work in their workshop.
Instructions 4.
Find a short movie that has something to do with the section, stair, texture or materiality and your scheme. Embed the video in your blog.
Just a quick note: I took on some advice from my tutor and altered the form of Concept No.6. The original form was too "plain" and the roof did not compliment the beautiful fractured facade. As such the design has changed in both regards to the form of the upper space and the connecting stairs (the Hands I added were meant to be closer to the original sketch with its branches coming out from the main structure).
SketchUp Model With Custom Textures (Concept 6)
The Chosen Textures
Expensive (0.4% Carbon Steel)
Cold (Shards?)
Shining (Just like shooting stars)
Applied the "Shining" texture to my upper level. Questionable choice of applying a slight hint of yellow but it looked very bland without it...
An interior shot of CJ's work space with some paintings. Rather spacious and lots of viewing windows for natural light and maybe even cross-flow ventilation!
Applied the "Cold" texture to the floor of the middle area. I've decided to leave it rather open to accentuate the two double helix 'hands'. Still have to maybe add some fencing or details to make this middle section feel completed.
Shot of Revival Cycle's workshop area. Nice and spacious for testing out the ride after it's been revived. Tried to incorporate the Reputation influence by having the portraits of past works. Their reputation is on show!
Applied the "Expensive(?)" texture to the wall. It works nicely and gives the illusion of rocks and stone.
As seen above, my above studio has a significant focus on glass - particularly how it fractures.
SketchUp Model With Custom Textures (Concept 15)
The Chosen Textures
Futuristic (Or very electronic)
Flinty (Surprisingly nice texture despite the awkward word choice...)
Modular (Just like modern art!)
Images of Model
Applied the "Futuristic" texture to stairs.
I was able to set an opacity and blue tint to my texture to help blend in with the surrounding 'crystal' style stairs.
Inclusion of CJ Hendry and some of her works in the lower studio.
"Modular" texture applied to the middle section as a flooring material.
Notably the texture wasn't well drawn and hence didn't tessellate well.
"Flinty" texture for Revival Cycles - Worked surprisingly well as a rugged flooring.
Once again, included some of Revival Cycle's works in the upper open air workshop to establish a sense of scale.
This was the aesthetic I was trying to partially incorporate into the lower CJ Hendry Workspace. Particularly in the stairs and the central studio island.
